Newton Commercial Asphalt
Steve Illingworth
Another year has come and gone. The older I get the faster the years go by. It seems like just yesterday when I stepped into Brad’s office here in Newton and applied for a job. That was in 1978 and I was 18 years old. Anyway the Commercial Asphalt crew ended up having a fairly busy year. The commercial market was down this year but we were lucky enough that state and county work was there to fill in the gaps. Early August we started working six days a week to keep up with our workload. Every year in February and March I sit at this desk and wonder how I am going to keep the crew busy and profitable through the next season. But we always seem to make it.

For this last season the Malcom plant produced 48,060 Ton. The Newton Plant produced 41,835 Ton. The crew moved to 67 different jobs.

Towards the end of the season Denny Pfantz and his portable crew came home and helped us on several projects to finish the year. It is always nice to get equipment parked before the snow and cold weather sets in.

As always thanks to the commercial paving crew, the plant crew, and all involved in our little world. Hope all of you have a Merry Xmas and New Year. Hope to see you back in the spring. Be safe.
