I
know we say it every year, but my, hasn't the year gone by
quickly?
The
folks over here at Wendling Quarries worked through one of the
toughest years ever. Sales were down due to one reason - lack of
work in our areas.
D.O.T.
work was at the lowest level ever. Asphalt work in the whole
state of Iowa was off considerably. We got our share, but when
the whole pie is smaller, we all loose out. That's why our
choices of political leadership is so important. The road fund
is a important part of our livelihoods.
Enough
about that. I have some good news. Next year looks better! All
indications at this point look up. A stronger year in 2003 is
what I see. Our forecasts say the same thing. That's good. Our
internal forecasting has been on the mark since we started doing
it 4 or 5 years ago. We could always use the major highway work
right next to one of our sites, but I don't see this right now.
Nevertheless, 2003 does look up.
A
lot of changes have happened this year, and all I can say is
thanks to those involved in making the best of those changing
situations. Change is not always easy, but made easier by those
who have a good attitude about whatever situation is dealt to
them.
Safety
is going to continue to be a priority through all of our family
of companies for two reasons - 1.) It’s the right thing to
emphasize. 2.) We have to for insurability at a competitive
price.
The
rolling stock of this company, like dump trucks, lowboys, and
other equipment that goes down the road, will have to be under
the microscope. We all want to come home at the end of the day.
Happy
holidays to all the employees of our companies and their
families. Thank you for the people protecting our great nation.
May our troops defeat the bad will and terrible mentality of
terrorism. May God govern the decisions of our leaders for the
best interest of the masses. This country has so much to be
thankful for. The more I learn about other countries the more
thankful I am for ours!!!!
Merry
Christmas and God Bless America!!!!
