It’s
Thanksgiving. Are we really thankful? Sure, we are happy that we
get to be with our families during the Holidays and we get to
eat mass quantities of good food and lie around with our bellies
sticking out more than normal and watch football.
What
about Thanksgiving in the workplace? I read an article recently
that caused me to think about working for this Company. I find
myself getting a little cranky and complaining about certain
parts of my job. You know, the glass half empty attitude people
get when they don’t see the good in things and focus only on
the bad. Those folks are sometimes a little hard to be around
and continue to maintain your positive attitude.
I
decided I was going to take a moment to reflect on the good
things I have to be thankful for here at work. First, I am
thankful I have a job. The economy has tumbled for a lot of
companies and caused them to lay off employees with no certainty
that they will be called back. Even though the construction
business has also suffered, we are still going thanks to the
diversity of the Manatt family of businesses. We have not seen
mass layoffs or wage cuts or loss of benefits. I am thankful and
I am going to pass that on to my bosses. We should all do the
same.
Second,
I am surrounded by good people who work hard and take the time
to have some fun. We can kid and joke with each other but the
work gets done. If someone is having a bad day, the other
employees give them some space and offer words of encouragement.
Employees genuinely care about each other, and it shows. I am
going to take the time to tell those people that make me want to
keep working here, that I appreciate them.
I
had an employee stop in the office recently and say that things
were bothering him/her more than usual and she/he was more
impatient and easily irritated. I have noticed that we are
anxious because of the situations with the economy, Iraq, the
terrorists and we are subconsciously worried…….all the more
reason to be there for each other. We are each other’s support
group when we aren’t at home.
Do
yourself a favor and help make someone else’s day………..SMILE!
It’s contagious.
