It
has been a very unusual year in the South Ready-Mix
division. The year started out very sadly, with the
passing of two plant managers, Rod Smith at Montezuma
and Steve Patterson at Colfax within seven weeks of each
other. Many people that have been around Manatt’s for
many years commented that two managers in such a short
time had never happened before. It was a challenge to
fill the openings left by these two individuals that did
such a good job and were respected by many area
contractors and fellow employees. But it seems we have
found the right people to step up to challenges of
management. Mike McDonald took over the reins on May 1st
at Montezuma. Mike has been with Manatt’s for many
years, spending about the last 13 years at the Grinnell
Plant as a driver and whatever else he could help out
doing. Sam Hesse accepted the position at the Colfax
Plant July 1st.
He did a great job taking the “bull by the horns” for us
in a very short and trying time but has been
transitioning very well from driver to manager there.
The other changes in the South, Chris
explained in his article, but basically the change has
Chris and I covering many more plants and areas than in
the past. We look forward to our new challenges and
getting acquainted with our new areas and to keep on
running like well oiled machines!
As far as the work goes, it appears that
we have a lot to do in a short period of time. Some of
the wet weather earlier has pushed some jobs back and
made the window till colder weather much smaller. With
that said, as we push to get out as much concrete to our
customers that we can, please, everyone remember, “to
SAFELY
do every job we do better than anybody
else”! |
We have gone through numerous
changes in the ready mix division this year. One
of the main changes we’ve seen is in management.
We have restructured the north
and south ready mix management. Tim Manatt will
be retiring sometime next year, so as of June we
have shifted management around.
Ken Cline is the area manager for
the following plants: Belle Plaine, Colfax,
Grinnell, Montezuma, Newhall, New Sharon,
Newton, Tama, Tipton, Victor and Vinton.
I have taken over the northern
region and shifted two plants from the south to
the north. I am now the area manager for the
following plants: Denver, Grundy Center,
Independence, Jesup, La Porte City, Oelwein,
Readlyn, Traer and Waterloo. I have moved to
Cedar Falls and my office is at United Concrete
in Elk Run
We also have two new plant
managers here in the north. Al Streittmatter has
moved from the Jesup plant to take over at
Independence. Chad Schares, formerly a
driver/dispatcher in Independence, has taken
Al’s place as manager of the Jesup plant. If you
are ever in the area stop in and say “hi” to Al
and Chad.
